TOOLS THAT YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THIS JOB: |
Flags
Roto-Tiller
Landscape Rake or Bow Rake
Shovel
Lawn roller
Fertilizer Spreader
Starter Fertilizer
Seed
Top Dressing
| 1. |
If you have preexisting in-ground sprinklers be sure to flag them; it will save you a lot of work and money.
| 2. |
Using the Roto-Tiller, set the depth to 3 inches.
| 3. |
You want to use the Roto-Tiller® to turn the soil in the area that you are going to be refurbishing.
| 4. |
Rake the area and remove the debris using the bow rake.
| 5. |
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the dirt is fluffy and free of debris.
| 6. |
Take your landscape rake and level out the terrain. Once you are satisfied with the level of the area then you are finished.
| 7. |
Take the lawn roller and drag it in a uniform crisscross pattern until you are done with the area.
| . |
Note:The order which you complete the next steps are unimportant. I like to do the fertilizer first so the seed is not tracked to areas that do not require it; thus, saving work in the long run.
| 8. |
Take the spreader and calibrate it to the correct application rate per the label. You are now ready to apply the fertilizer.
| 9. |
Calibrate the spreader to the rate of application for the seed. (Fescues take more pounds per square foot than Blue Grass, Rye Grasses and Bermuda Grass seed)
| 10. |
Apply the seed now.
| 11. |
Take the Top Dressing (You can use compost, but note that compost contains weed seeds at times) and apply it over the seed. You just want to cover it so it doesn’t float away or blow away and it to keep it warm so it will germinate faster; thus, yielding better results.
| 12. |
Set your sprinklers so that there is minimal runoff. You want to keep the ground moist-- not wet or soggy. |
